Question by Christian R: What is a cheap durable fishing rod?
I’m looking for a cheap fishing rod that is under or under.
It needs to be a rod & reel combo, not just the rod.

Academy sports has a rod called TOURNAMENT CHOICE, made by Angler, this is the store brand, and is about $ 10.00 dollars, They also have spinning reels starting about $ 10.00 dollars, this is what I get for first time fishermen that come to me to teach them how to fish

Go to walmart they sell some inexpensive combos, they wont be the best setups but if use them for what they are intended for they should last you for a while. If I were you I would spend a few extra dollars and get a Ugly Stik combo, they are one of the most durable rods but remember because they are all fiberglass they are heaverier than the graphite or Kevlar rods.

Go to Walmart, they have decent combos from very affordable prices. Good enough for a beginner fisherman at least. Walmart has some Shimano, Ugly Stick, Abu Garcia..etc…not the their top models ofcourse but should do the job. I would go with a 6.5 ft medium-action rod with a spinning reel.

Zebco 33′s are that price and they are pretty good. Just re-spool them with 8lb, 10lb, or 12lb Trilene XL or Stren, since the line that comes with them is junk.

It depends in what your fishing for. If your going for Bass or Catfish i would buy a ugly stick, it has a VERY strong rod and usually comes with a descent reel also. But if your fishing for trout, panfish, perch or other smaller fish i would recommend a small shakespear ultra light rod and reel combo. I have had my rod and reel for over five years now and have not had a problem with it yet.
